Back in March 2014, the New Orleans Track Club received an email from a young woman named Rebecca Flesh who proposed a race idea for the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina where participants could raise money for organizations in Louisiana who helped the victims from the storm. Rebecca lived in Jefferson, Louisiana until the age of nine and then moved to Illinois after Katrina. The NOTC race committee and board of directors readily approved this idea and in the summer of 2014, we began promoting and planning for the event and seeking nominations for non-profits to serve as beneficiaries.

With months of planning by a committee comprised of members from the NOTC board of directors and members from the ten selected beneficiaries, the Folgers Resilience Run/Walk took place on Saturday, August 29th, 2015, a beautiful and sunny morning, in the Marigny/Bywater neighborhoods. This event was unique to most other NOTC races, as it was not officially scored and finish times and results were not compiled. We had a total of 1,158 participants, including great representation from our title sponsor, The Folgers Coffee Company, which was the first company to resume production in New Orleans following the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina. The Folgers Resilience Run/Walk raised a total of $12,126.59 that was formally presented to ten local non-profit organizations at the NOTC Board of Directors meeting on October 12th, 2015. We are thrilled that this special event symbolized the resilience of community spirit and love in New Orleans through running, walking, dancing, food, and music.

Net proceeds from the Folgers Resilience Run/Walk on August 29th have been distributed to 10 area non-profits. Totaling...
