NOTC Grand Prix Series 2002

The New Orleans Track Club "Grand Prix Series 2002" began on February 24th with the Elmwood Classic and is on track for another successful season.

The NOTC Board of Directors of the New Orleans Track Club is proud to be hosting the 15th Anniversary of the Grand Prix Series which is designed to recognize all members who consistently participate and perform well in Club events. NOTC would also like to thank Dr. Tichners for their sponsorship of the 2002 NOTC Grand Prix Series.

*** New for 2002 ***

Any NOTC member completing all races in the Grand Prix Series will receive a specially designed tee-shirt commemorating the 2002 Grand Prix. Participants in all grand prix series races must complete a mail out certificate indicating their shirt size.

While 2002 schedule is subject to change, the line up of races for 2002 include the following:

December Ole Man River - 13.1 mi & 5k

Grand Prix Series Divisions

Youth, Adult and Race Walkers, with 5 (five) age groups in each division. All NOTC members are eligible to receive points towards Grand Prix Series Awards. In order to receive points at designated NOTC Grand Prix Series events, your membership in the club must be current at each event. To be eligible for Grand Prix Series awards a club member must have participated in at least 6 Grand Prix Series events.

Series/Division Points

Points are awarded to each Club member based on their finish placement (among members only) in designated Grand Prix events. The Youth Grand Prix Division will be applicable for events with a race of 1 mile or less. All other distances at Grand Prix Series events will award points for Adult and Race Walker divisions only.

Youth Division Age Groups

The Youth Grand Prix Division will consist of events with a race of 1 mile or less (see events with *). Age groups will be: under 8, 9-10,11-12, and 13-14. The top 5 club members in each age group will be scored: 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, and 50. One point for each member in the top 5 per age group will be scored for participation to serve as a tie-breaker. To be eligible for awards in the youth division members must participate in at least 4 Grand Prix races.

Adult Division Age Groups

The Adult Grand Prix Division consists of events of 2 miles and longer. Age groups will be: Open (under 39), Masters (40-49), Grand Masters (50-59), Seniors (60-69), and Legends (70 & up). The top 10 club members in each age group will be scored: 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, and 10. For events with more than one distance, bonus points will be scored for the longer of the two events as follows: 150, 135, 120, 105, 90, 75, 60, 45, 30, 15. Members will only be scored in one of the two events. One point for each member in the top 10 per age group will be scored for participation to serve as a tie-breaker. To be eligible for awards members must participate in at least 6 Grand Prix races.

Race Walker Division Age Groups

The Race Walker Grand Prix Division consists of events of 2 miles and longer. Age groups will be: Open (under 39), Masters (40-49), Grand Masters (50-59), Seniors (60-69), and Legends (70 & up). The top 5 club members in each age group will be scored: 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, and 50. For events with more than one distance, bonus points will be scored for the longer of the two events as follows: 150, 135, 120, 105, and 90. One point for each member in the top 5 per age group will be scored for participation to serve as a tie-breaker. To be eligible for awards members must participate in at least 6 Grand Prix races. To be scored as a race walker, walkers must sign in at the race walker table. Walkers can receive points for judging at a maximum of 2 races. Points for judging is the average points of the first 6 races walked plus the tie-breaker point. Breaking race walking rules is considered cheating and will result in disqualification and failure to score points.

Points

Only NOTC members may score points. Points for each age group are (1st thru 10th place): 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10. Events with more than one distance (Example: Elmwood Classic 5K and 10K) will award long distance points in the longer of the two distances: 150, 135, 120, 105, 90, 75, 60, 45, 30, and 15. Club members participating in both races will receive points from only 1 event. One (1) point will be awarded to each of the top ten NOTC finishers for each event participated in to serve as a tie-breaker.

Rules

Age for the series is as per USATF rules, which is the age at the end of the series.

Only current NOTC members will be scored.

To be eligible for awards adult members must participate in at least 6 Grand Prix events and youth members must participate in at least 4 Grand Prix events.

Cheating will not be tolerated and will result in disqualification from not only that event, but also all subsequent Grand Prix Series events.

Awards

Awards will be presented at the awards banquet to the top 5 in each division. Adult and Race Walker 1st place finishers will be presented with commemorative Grand Prix attire. Plaques or trophies will be presented to 2nd through 5th place and to Youth Division winners.

2002 Series Completion Awards will be presented to all NOTC members completing all 11 races in the Grand Prix Series. This award will be a specially designed tee-shirt commemorating the 2002 Grand Prix. Participants who compete in all grand prix series races must complete the mail out certificate indicating shirt size to be eligible for this award.

Race Walker Grand Prix series rules

A race walker that has been disqualified at a race will not be eligible for points for that event. Judges will be at Grand Prix Series events. Race Walker must sign-in at the Race Walker sign-in table and receive a yellow RW bib to be eligible for that event. A race walker is allowed to judge no more than two GP races and receive points for the events in a single season. The RW must have completed the USATF test and be in possession of their picture ID and USATF pin. They must compete in six GP races. GP points awarded for judging is the average of the points from the first 6 races that were actually race walked for the year plus the tie breaker point for participation.
